Terms of Use — Voice

These terms cover the Voice app for macOS, sold through the Mac App Store by Mariusz Szyma. Apple's own Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to every app bought from the App Store and applies here too; these terms add the parts that are specific to Voice. Where the two conflict, Apple's agreement wins.

What you are buying
A licence to use Voice on the Macs associated with your Apple ID, for as long as it runs on your hardware. Voice is paid once, on the App Store. There is no in-app purchase, no subscription and no trial, and every future update to Voice is included.
You are not buying speech recognition. That comes from Soniox and is billed by Soniox to your own Soniox account, at their prices, under their terms. Voice cannot dictate without a Soniox API key that you supply, and the developer neither resells nor marks up that service. Before you buy Voice, be sure you are willing to hold a Soniox account — it is not optional, and it is not included.
The optional AI cleanup and Translate features work the same way: they use a text service you choose (DeepSeek, or another compatible provider), under your own account and API key, billed by that provider. Voice works without them.
What Voice requires
- macOS 14 or later.
- A Soniox account and API key, which you obtain from Soniox at console.soniox.com.
- An internet connection for dictation. Speech recognition is a cloud service; Voice says so rather than pretending otherwise. Screenshots and screen recordings work offline.
- Microphone and Accessibility permission for dictation, and Screen Recording permission for the capture tools, granted by you in System Settings. Voice's privacy policy sets out exactly what each is used for.
What the developer does not promise
Voice is provided as it is. Speech recognition and AI cleanup are imperfect, and they will sometimes get words wrong — proofread anything that matters. Soniox and any text service you connect are independent services that may change their prices, their models, their terms or their availability, and Voice depends on them; if Soniox becomes unavailable, Voice cannot transcribe. The developer does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation, and is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, to the extent the law allows that limitation.
Nothing here removes rights you have under the consumer law of your own country. In the European Union and the United Kingdom in particular, your statutory rights against a seller of digital content stand regardless of what this page says.
Refunds
Purchases are made from Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple, under Apple's policy, at reportaproblem.apple.com. The developer cannot issue a refund for an App Store purchase.
Acceptable use
Do not use Voice to record people — their voice, their screen or their image — who have not agreed to be recorded, where the law where you are requires their agreement. Whether and when you may record a conversation or a screen is governed by your local law, and it is your responsibility, not the developer's.
Do not redistribute the app, or use it to break the law.
